STEP ONE / FOUNDATION

Start With the Care Label

Every garment carries its own care instructions, these should always guide your decisions. "Hand Wash" or "Dry Clean" indicates gentle handling is required.

"Dry Clean Only" means the garment is not designed for water exposure. The care label is not a suggestion, it is essential guidance.

PREPARATION

Sort Delicates with Intention

Not all delicate garments should be washed together. Silk, lace, wool, cashmere, and fine synthetics each respond differently to water, movement, and detergent.

  • Sort by fabric type, keep silks with silks, wools with wools
  • Separate light and dark colours to prevent dye transfer
  • Wash highly delicate items individually for best results

STEP THREE / THE METHOD

Hand Washing Delicates

Hand washing is the gentlest way to care for delicate garments and provides full control over the process.

  1. Fill a clean basin with cool water
  2. Add a small amount of Elovs Fabric Care Detergent
  3. Submerge and soak for up to 30 minutes
  4. Rinse thoroughly with cool water
  5. Press gently, never wring or twist
  6. Lay flat on a clean towel, roll gently to absorb moisture

ALTERNATIVE

Machine Washing Delicates

If hand washing is not practical and the care label permits, extra precautions are essential to protect the garment's structure and finish.

  • Turn garments inside out and fasten all zippers
  • Place items in a mesh laundry bag
  • Select gentle cycle, cold water, low spin
  • Remove promptly and air dry, never tumble dry
